Is it possible to change your blood type?

As you might know, the idea that our personality is strongly defined by our blood type is fairly popular in Japan. Recently one of my Japanese friends was saying that there have been cases of people changing their blood type (through a series of blood transfusions??, not really sure) in order to change their personality. Is that possible?

No it is not possible. There are hundreds of blood groups and they are genetically determined. If you are referring to the most significant blood group from the transfusion perspective, the ABO, A and B are antigenic substances (that provoke a response in the immune system in the form of antibodies) and are bound o the red cells. Te group O is the absence of A and /or B. These antigens are widespread in the environment (food, bacteria etc.) that's why everyone creates natural immunity against the ones they don't have

It's possible that receivers of transplants can change their blood types to be compatible with the new organ - e.g. liver. Equally for bone marrow.
